Essay on Nanotechnology and the Future - 947 Words

Nanotechnology and the Future In an earth that is full of cell phones, laptops, PC’s, palm pilots, flat screen televisions, I-pods, EZ pass, and many other gizmos and gadgets, it is hard to imagine our universe becoming even more high-tech. Many people could not make it through a week, or even a couple of days without a cell phone, car, or television. To make our world even more complicated, the continuous emergence of nanotechnology is creeping upon us, and it will affect out lives whether we want it to or not. Nanotechnology could help us in different fields of medicine, yet it could also be a threat to the human identity. Whatever the case may be, new technology could end up showing us that our human meaning is much more†¦show more content†¦Also, these nanobots can allow â€Å"metabolic support in impaired circulation,† meaning nanobots can provide artificial blood cells to improve low oxygen levels (Merkle). Ray Kurzweil in â€Å"Nanotechnology: Reinventing Our Cells,† say s that in the future nanobots will be able to â€Å"design genetic therapies to improve our cells, and will ultimately be able to replace damaged organs such as the liver and pancreas† (Kurzweil 556). These types of medical advances could very well change the world for the better, especially for people and families who are directly affected by diseases as deadly as cancer and illnesses as exasperating and deadly as diabetes. Also, these medical advancements will greatly affect the career world. For example, any person who hopes and plans to have a future in the medical world, might someday be out of a job. If diseases are stopped instantly by nanobots, then what jobs will be left for doctors? I do not want to be a doctor, however, I am on a track to become a physical therapist and at the rate these nanobots are going, they may eventually evolve to be able to fix any minor ailment in the body, including anything in the muscle and bones. If this happens to be true, I might have to change my major or perhaps, become a nanotherapist! While nanobots seem to be very beneficial to human survival, they can also be quite terrifying. Ray Kurzweil tells us that by the year 2030,Show MoreRelatedNanotechnology And Its Effects On Our Future1587 Words   |  7 PagesImagine that, in the near future, you need surgery in your lungs. Currently, it would be very invasive and very risky to do surgery on your lungs. But, with advances in nanotechnology, the surgery could be quick and painless. There could be almost no risk attributed to surgeries like nowadays, and it would not be nearly as invasive either.
